French Press: Is it the Best?

The longer coffee brews, the more flavor will be extracted. The “plunger”, or French Press, method of brewing coffee allows coffee grinds to stay in contact with the water longer. Many people agree that using a French Press to brew coffee makes the best coffee.

To start, a clean French Press apparatus is essential. These basic devices can be bought at a variety of stores for ten or more dollars. The most important thing to take note of when using this method is the coarseness of the coffee grinds. Because the coffee will be in contact with the water for a prolonged time, use a coarser grind of coffee than you would when using the typical drip pot brewing method. If the coffee is too fine, the brew will be bitter and too strong.

Bring fresh, filtered water to a boil and pour it over the coarsely ground coffee in the bottom of the French Press. Allow the water and coffee mixture to steep for 3-5 minutes. At that point, slowly press the plunger down, separating the coffee grinds from the liquid. Pour the coffee and enjoy!

In my opinion, this method makes the best, most rich and flavorful coffee. Give it a try, and adjust the time you let the coffee and water steep depending on your preference to find the coffee strength right for you.

Coffee has been around a while

Here are 4 interesting facts about coffee... more to come...

Coffee was originally eaten as food in the form of a coffee and animal fat “energy bar” between the 6th and 9th century. It provided energy to Ethiopians during long treks and war.

Coffee was first consumed as a hot beverage near the beginning of the 11th century. Before, it was eaten as a food or drank as porridge.

Coffee was introduced to North America in 1668.

Coffee was originally a drink only Arabs enjoyed.
